What makes a nation? Is it a people, a government, a language, a territory? Most nations are a mix of all of these and other factors as well. Some may go back to long before the country was even named. Great Britain is such a nation. This chapter focuses on turning points in the history of what is today the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
